Seeds, in partnership with academic, technical, and development institutions from Jordan, Egypt, Türkiye, Greece, and Ireland, have announced the development of a new regional initiative titled “LAND-READY Green”, aimed at strengthening climate adaptation and land restoration in rural areas across the Mediterranean through a youth-led governance model.
The initiative responds to the growing challenges facing rural ecosystems in the region, including land degradation, water scarcity, declining agricultural productivity, and the increasing vulnerability of youth livelihoods due to climate change.
LAND-READY Green focuses on building an integrated model that combines:
- Restoration of degraded land through nature-based solutions,
- Reform of local governance mechanisms to embed climate adaptation priorities,
- Formal inclusion of youth in land management committees and decision-making processes, and
- Development of a digital platform to monitor restoration progress and governance performance indicators.
Commenting on the initiative, a Seeds representative stated:
The pilot phase is expected to include restoration activities covering approximately 20 to 30 hectares within a selected rural site, alongside the development of institutional reform frameworks integrating climate adaptation into the operational mandates of intermediary rural institutions.
The initiative will also develop a digital monitoring platform to track land restoration progress, youth engagement indicators, and institutional reform benchmarks. The model is designed for scalability and potential replication in additional Mediterranean countries in the coming years.
The partnership is currently mobilising technical and financial support to expand the initiative and position it as a regional model for strengthening rural resilience in the face of climate change.
