Palestine Land Day 2026 comes at a time of deepening crisis and unwavering resistance
Over the past year, the realities on the ground in Palestine have grown more severe, as communities face an intensification of land dispossession, settler violence, and systemic restrictions that threaten both livelihoods and existence itself. From the cancellation of Palestinian land registration in Area C to the expansion of settlements and the escalation of attacks on farmers during the olive harvest, land is not only contested—it is being systematically erased as a source of identity, sustenance, and sovereignty.
Yet, across Palestine, people continue to resist this erasure. Farmers persist in cultivating their land despite blocked access and violence; communities rebuild agricultural systems in the midst of devastation; and grassroots initiatives restore not only crops, but dignity and autonomy. In Gaza, where vast areas of farmland have been destroyed and famine was declared in 2025, while conditions of malnutrition and hunger continue, efforts to revive cultivation and food production are sustaining thousands. In the West Bank, tree planting, seed sharing, and land restoration have become acts of “sumod”—steadfastness—anchoring communities to their land in the face of forced displacement.
At the same time, Palestinian civil society and farmers’ organisations have continued to raise their voices globally—documenting violations, calling for accountability, and reframing food and land not just as humanitarian concerns, but as matters of justice, rights, and survival. From international forums to local cooperatives led by women, these efforts highlight a powerful truth: that the struggle for land is inseparable from the struggle for life itself.
As we mark Palestine Land Day this year, we reflect not only on loss and dispossession, but on the enduring relationship between people and land—and the collective resistance that continues to defend it.
