The ILC-EMENA member and brand new focal point of the Kosovar NLC, CNVP, is driving sustainable forestry in Kosovo by implementing Forest Management Plans (FMPs) for private forests. These plans outline key activities such as inventory, yield calculation, harvesting, and protection to ensure effective forest stewardship. CNVP’s objective is to foster collaboration between private forest owners (PFOs) and businesses under these management frameworks.
A significant case is a 3-hectare private forest in eastern Kosovo, which had remained uncultivated for 35 years. CNVP partnered with a leading woodchip and pellet producer to develop a tailored FMP for the forest. The plan involved thinning to enhance the forest’s health and productivity. As a result, around 200 tons of biomass were produced, which, though unsuitable for other purposes, was ideal for woodchip production. The biomass was sent to a collection point in western Kosovo and utilized to power the local heating system. This collaboration demonstrates the impact of effective partnerships in supporting sustainable forestry practices.
By promoting the adoption of FMPs, CNVP not only aids PFOs but also ensures responsible forest management, benefiting both the environment and the local economy. CNVP remains committed to expanding this approach, strengthening ties with industry leaders, and fostering community engagement.
